FAQ - Sustainable Wood Crafts

Frequently Asked Questions

LAMS Woodcrafts works exclusively with reclaimed wood, transforming trunks, branches and natural fragments into unique pieces of handcrafted lighting. On this page we have gathered the answers to the most frequently asked questions about our processes, materials, shipping, customisation and piece care.

1. What kind of pieces does LAMS Woodcrafts make?

LAMS Woodcrafts creates sustainable, handmade craft pieces in Portugal, from reclaimed wood, trunks, branches and roots responsibly gathered from nature, beaches or rivers.
The collections include wooden lamps, paper raffia lampshades, candle holders and other unique decorative pieces.
Each piece is one of a kind, celebrating the natural forms of the wood and combining organic materials with warm lighting, always with a focus on authenticity and respect for nature.

2. I saw a piece in one of your projects and want something similar. Is that possible?

Our pieces are unique and never repeated. However, if you have seen something similar in a photograph or project, we can create a piece inspired by that reference, respecting proportions and style, but with its own identity.
Custom projects usually require 3 to 5 weeks of production, depending on complexity and the wood available.
We send progress photos during the process to make sure the final result matches your expectations exactly.

3. What is the average shipping time?

For pieces in stock, after payment confirmation, average processing time is up to 3 business days.
Delivery times start counting from dispatch and vary according to destination:

Mainland Portugal and mainland Spain: 2 to 5 business days.
Madeira, the Azores, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla and all other countries: shipping is always quoted case by case, depending on weight, dimensions and destination – you can request a quote directly in the cart, by entering the country and postal code.

4. Where does the wood you use come from?

The wood used by LAMS is reclaimed wood, from fallen trees, dry branches, and driftwood found in rivers or on beaches.
This process favours sustainability, avoids unnecessary felling and gives new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded, reducing the ecological footprint and celebrating the authentic character of each piece.

5. How are the pieces packaged to avoid damage?

Each piece is carefully protected to ensure it stays intact during shipping.
We look for safe, sustainable solutions that keep the handcrafted aesthetic.

6. What care does the piece need to stay looking good?

Clean only with a soft, lightly dampened cloth; never use detergents or chemical products.
We recommend rehydrating the wood every 6 months with natural oil or beeswax (available on request).
Avoid direct exposure to heat or intense sunlight to prevent cracking and discolouration.
For paper raffia lampshades, use only a soft duster, with no liquids and away from heat sources.

7. Do the colours in the photographs match exactly the product I will receive?

Our photographs are carefully taken and edited to faithfully reflect each piece.
Even so, wood is a living, unique material, and can show natural variations in tone, grain or texture.
Each screen also reproduces colours slightly differently.
These nuances are part of the authenticity and handcrafted character of LAMS pieces.

8. What if the piece arrives damaged or defective?

If damage occurs during shipping, photograph the packaging and the piece within 48 hours of receipt and email them to us.
We offer a free replacement or a full refund, including return shipping costs.
We want every customer to receive their piece exactly as it was created.

9. Can I visit your workshop?

Yes. The LAMS Woodcrafts workshop, in Carnaxide (Oeiras), welcomes customer visits by prior appointment.
During the visit you can see the handcrafting process, choose woods, talk with us and follow custom projects currently in progress.

10. How is the wood treated, from collection to the finished piece?

Each piece of reclaimed wood is cleaned, left to dry naturally, and treated in a controlled environment to remove insects.
It is then trimmed, shaped, sanded and finished by hand with vegetable oils and/or beeswax, preserving its natural grain, texture and markings.
The paper raffia lampshades are built on hand-shaped and hand-soldered wire frames, woven thread by thread for a unique pattern of light.

11. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit/debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro), Apple Pay, Google Pay, MB Way, Multibanco, Payshop and bank transfer.
All payments are processed securely.
We issue an electronic invoice after payment confirmation.

12. Can I order made-to-measure lampshades (shape, lining and colour)?

Yes. We make custom lampshades with handcrafted welded wire frames, in beige or black, as well as special shapes on request.
You can choose the dimensions, socket type and colour of the paper raffia.
We always provide a quote and estimated timeframe before starting production, since we generally do not keep stock and need to start the process from scratch.

13. What sets LAMS Woodcrafts apart from other brands?

We use exclusively reclaimed wood or paper raffia for our lampshades, and every piece is handmade in Portugal.
We do not mass-produce: each object is born from the natural shape of the wood and a dialogue with its character.
We combine organic design, simplicity and natural materials to create pieces with history, authenticity and purpose.

14. Can I ask for additional photos or videos of the piece before buying?

Yes. We can send you detailed photographs, videos and real-scale images so you can decide with full confidence.
Just contact us through our usual channels.

15. Is every piece really unique?

Yes. Every LAMS piece is one of a kind, thanks to the natural characteristics of reclaimed wood.
The piece shown in the photograph is exactly the one you will receive.

16. How are LAMS Woodcrafts lamps made?

The process is handcrafted from start to finish.
The wood is worked while respecting its organic shape, then sanded, stabilised and finished by hand.
The paper raffia lampshades are likewise made by hand, creating warm, harmonious compositions.

17. How do I choose the ideal size for a handcrafted lamp?

We recommend measuring the spot where you plan to place it and assessing the scale of the space.
For side tables and sideboards, medium sizes work well; for coffee tables, we suggest more discreet pieces. Each of our products has a "Dimensions and Weight" section with a schematic drawing showing the approximate measurements and weight.
If that is not enough and you would like help, send us a photo of the space and we will suggest the ideal scale.
